LA Galaxy vs. Shanghai-Hong Kong (Chinese All-Stars)

Here is a video of the match:

On to a quick analysis…

Uhhh…either the Galaxy is REALLY damn good or the Chinese league still has a LONG way to go.

MLS All Stars have beaten top teams from around the world in exhibitions and never looked totally out of place. I’m not saying that they would beat Chelsea or Celtic every time out, but they would put up a good fight and win more than a couple.

This Chinese All-Star team though looked utterly over-matched. This was without the benefit of Landon Donovan either which would surely only compound their woes.

It’s hard to imagine that the league won’t improve at some point, but I wouldn’t expect the rapid growth of the K,J & A leagues & MLS. Simply put, China is still incredibly impoverished and those other nations are not. It makes a difference when you are able to use good facilities all the time and you don’t have to worry 90% of the time whether you will have the money to open the park that week.

Beckham pulled up lame, but it appears that it’s only a bruise or a deep bruise. They have one more game in Asia before returning to the US in Dallas where Fabio Capello or his assistant will be watching to assess his fitness for the England v. France Matchup.
